Its been a while since I've seen Brian ... probably a month or so. We decided we were gonna get together in July to jump out of an airplane. Im not really sure what gave him the idea, but he had it, and then he asked me to go along. What was I going to do? Say "No, Brian, I can't jump out of an airplane with you ... Im too scared" I dont think so ... Ive done this before and I damn well can do it again. So yeah, I jumped out of a plane because Im a bit too competitive. Phillys pride was on the line here ... it was NYC vs Philly and I was the only representative. You damn well better believe Im gonna be there. So Brian has this whole thing all planned out for July 21st. Which is good, because I live in South Jersey and I have no idea where to go skydiving in NY. The place is like 37 hours away from where I live. Its in the middle of no where ... and I mean no where. The only things around were mountains and Neko Sushi ... which looked really good actually.
So we get to this place called "The Ranch" and I meet up with Brian and all of his friends. We check in, do our thing, I set Brian up with the harness girl by demonstrating that he is a leader of men, then we go outside to our plane. Now my instructor (who by the way is named "Batman") is running a bit late, so Im one of the last ones to get on the plane, which also means that Im gonna be one of the first ones to get off the plane ... woohoo ...
At this point in time, Im not really that nervous ... not yet. When the plane takes off ... Im nervous. Not super crazy nervous, but nervous. You could definately tell that everyone was thinking about what we were about to do because the plane got really quiet, really quick. Justin and I shoot to see who gets the honor of jumping first ... I lose. Oh Im soooooo upset lol. There are a few other skydivers in the plane that arent with our group. They actually jump first, but they are all singles and apparently have done this before. Justin goes and I get to see him plummet to the ground. Okay, this is real now. Im standing in the door. I give my camera man a quick thumbs up and try to focus on keeping my head up and my hips arched. I was focusing so much on what I needed to do to get out of the plane that I almost forgot to be nervous ... almost.
So Im out of the plane. That was easy enough ... hell I can actually say I wasnt that scared. It was the same the first time I jumped too ... now all I have to do is fall about 7,000 feet in about 60 seconds, pull my chute and land safely on the ground. Piece of cake ... so I'll take you through my thought process a bit.
"Okay, Im out of the plane ... theres the ground ... Im falling really fast ... what the hell was I supposed to do again ... dammit Rory ... you said I was gonna forget everything and you were right ... hey theres my camera man ... WoooooHoooooo .... theres the ground again ... this is fun ... WooooooooHoooooo ... WooooooHoooooo ... why is this guy tapping on my hand ... oh crap I need to pull my chute ... thats why hes tapping on my hand ... hey the chute opened ... man Ive got a killer wedgie ... WooooooooHoooooooo!
Yeah that about sums it up. The landing was fun, its amazing how quiet it gets when you pull your chute. Its so chaotic when you jump and then all of a sudden everything gets quiet. Its really cool. All I can say is that once its over, you act like you are high on something. All you do when you hit the ground is go "Man ... that was awesome ... man ... WoooooHooooo ... Dude ... that was awesome ... dude I just jumped out of a plane ... man ... WooooooHooooo!" You completely discard sentences from your gramatical structure. Thats okay though, cause you just jumped out of a friggin plane.
So long story short, we all have a couple of beers, Brian hits on the harness girl some more, and totally does a good job and then we drive back to NYC and Im off to South Jersey yet again. It was a great day and Im really glad I did it. Cant wait for the next crazy adventure.
Peace!
